Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee

Purpose

 The City of St. Catharines Mayor's Youth Advisory committee will provide a voice for the youth of St. Catharines, while advising council of important recreational and social issues concerning the City's younger population. The committee may also coordinate events for the youth of St. Catharines throughout the school year.

Vision

 It is the vision of the committee to provide a communication link between the youth of St. Catharines and the City Council and to encourage facilities and programs that will enhance the quality of life for youth in our community while promoting sustainable youth development and involvement.

Goals

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will:

  • Keep council informed of important matters affecting youth.
  • Occasionally host youth workshops/forums, conduct survey's to address concerns and needs that affect youth.
  • Act as a positive advocate for youth
  • Actively seek input from youth on important matters
  • Support events created by the council that relate to the mandate.
  • Provide leadership experience for youth
  • Help enhance the image of youth in the City. Actively promote the recruitment of new members in order to ensure the longevity of the committee.

Membership

Membership is open to citizens who reside in the City of St. Catharines and who are between the ages of 16 and 22 years of age.

Voting Membership

The committee will approve by motion those matters that it wishes to advise City Council. A resolution will be adopted on a motion, carried by a simple majority vote. A quorum will be required. A quorum consists of a minimum of 50 per cent plus one of the voting members of the council.

Membership Responsibility

Members shall observe all corporate policies of the City of St. Catharines with respect to the Code of Conduct and Harassment policies and make every effort to attend all meetings
