Mayor's Advisory Committee for Black History

Purpose

The Mayor's Advisory Committee for Black History will provide advice to Council regarding the feasibility of establishing a national black history museum within the City of St. Catharines.

Vision

To be determined by the commitee.

Goals

  • To investigate the feasibility of establishing a national black history museum within the City of St. Catharines
  • To research and investigate the potential audience of such a facility
  • If such a facility is feasible within the community, investigate the best location in the City of St. Catharines
  • To investigate opportunities for funding to establish a national black history museum
  • To investigate opportunities for on-going operating funding for a national black history museum

Membership

Membership is open to citizens who reside and/or are property owners in the City of St. Catharines and who are 18 years of age or older.

Voting Membership

Voting membership consists of 10-12 members, including representatives of stakeholder groups and volunteer members of the public.

Membership Responsibility

Members shall observe all corporate policies of the City of St. Catharines with respect to the Code of Conduct and harassment policies, and make every effort to attend all meetings.

Membership Term

The committee will exist for a term of two (2) years, at which time the need for it will be reassessed.

Meeting Schedule & Location(s)

Committee meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at either City Hall or the St. Catharines Museum.
